Sometimes ESPN provides humorous visions in my head. Like Karl Malone sitting on his couch – which is probably shaped like a big 18-wheeler – watching the bowl selection show and getting super pissed that Lousiana Tech (who’s most recent national championships have been men’s and women’s powerlifting) missed out on playing in 4th-tier bowl game against a team that’s never been to a bowl game (Lousiana-Monroe).

While I have historically loathed the Redskins, I may have to get a RGIII shirt just to spite this whole “Andrew Luck has the look – by which I mean a tall white guy that played for a major college football program” thing that’s been happening. I don’t even need to do a statistical comparison to show the horridness of comparing Luck’s season to RGIII.

Well, maybe I do (numbers, league standing):

Completion percentage: RGIII (67.5, 4th), Luck (56.8, 31; at least he’s ahead of Sanchize)

Passer rating: RGIII (104.6, 4th; including the first rookie to post a perfect game, and it would be highest rookie rating of all-time), Luck (76.7, 29; again, at least he’s ahead of Sanchize)

Total touchdowns: RGIII (22, T-6th), Luck (18, T-11)

Interceptions: RGIII (4, T-30th), Luck (13, T-3rd)

Seriously? A collection of the world’s greatest basketball talent was thrown off by 5 minutes of fan-schmoozing by the President? I don’t buy it. I also take this as definitive proof that the 2012 incarnation of Team USA would be no match for the Dream Team. There’s no way Anderson Varejao keeps Brazil within 6 points of the Dream Team in the 4th quarter.

Also, I’ve been railing on this all week: Team USA needs a team name like Spain. I’m pretty sure the reason Spain has won ever soccer title imaginable is due to their name…Los Rojas! How badass is that? Team USA might be a bit too douchey for a cool name this year, but I think it would be key to a successful gold-medal run.

- The rumored package of players the Houston Rockets are willing to send to the Orlando Magic for Dwight Howard.

In addition to Howard, the Rockets would also take on three of the Magic’s high-paid spare parts (e.g., Jason Richardson, Hedu Turkoglu, Chris Duhon, Glen Davis). The Rockets have also lost a number of their key players to free agency and trades that positioned the team to make a Howard trade:

PG: Goran Dragic (Phoenix), Kyle Lowry (Toronto)

SG: Courtney Lee (possibly Boston)

SF: Chase Budinger (Minnesota)

PF: Luis Scola (amnestied to make room for Howard)

C: Marcus Camby (New York), Samuel Dalembert (Milwaukee)

So, essentially, Dwight Howard would be traded to a team of over-priced spare parts and trade fodder, while Orlando would receive a starting shooting guard, two serviceable forwards, a trio of rookies with big ceilings, and get rid of the biggest headache in the NBA?
